Headquartered in Sakai, Osaka, Japan, the company was founded in 1912 by Tokuji Hayakawa, and its name is derived from his invention of the Ever-Sharp mechanical pencil. Since 2016, Sharp Corporation has been majority-owned by the Taiwan-based Foxconn Group.
